The aerospace sector has largely been expanding during the last decades and represents an excellent opportunity for the versatility of Mario Carnaghi machines. A good strong solid machine design is required when machining rotating jet engine component parts, also for maintenance and repair processes. Rigidity and accuracy are a number one priority with the advent of new high temperature alloys, titanium, special steels, aluminium alloys, and composite materials. The latest cutting tool technology, machining parameters, cooling of the work piece, and how the work piece is held (hydrostatic chucking up to 2.0 meters in diameter) all have an impact on machine design. These features are all represented in our latest vertical turning lathes for the aerospace customer.Meanwhile, for aero structure and prismatic part machining, the company has newly developed, the high speed milling machine concept named “Millennium”. Capable of high speed movement of 60 m/min by means of linear motors mounted on “cross-beam” structures. Such capability covers the main needs for the machining of longerons, wing profiles, landing gears, etc.
